Stories

Klender "Stories" is a collection of country/modern country story songs written by Klender, and his talented collaborators. Klender has been a record producer for over 35 years and relocated 12 years ago to build his third, and final, commercial recording studio, now located in the wine country and farmlands of Paso Robles, CA. He's accidentally (or wildly on purpose) just released 5 new albums of his own material. The album titles relate to the 5-star points of his favorite, tangled obsessions (Stories, Passion, Anthem, Cabernet & Worship). Klender also lives on, and runs, his own vineyard and boutique winery where he produces the gold medal, award-winning, Klender Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. He divides his time between his vineyard, winemaking and writing/producing music.

You may listen to samples of his music below by clicking on the audio file. If you CLICK on the TITLE of any underlined song it will take you to a unique webpage that highlights more information about each song on this album (more songs coming soon). These pages include detailed Credits as well as music videos, video interviews and a Backstory about each song, which we believe you'll find interesting. A digital Box Set, of 35 songs, has also been released, titled "Farewell", which contains all the songs from this album as well as many other songs from his other current albums.

At 22

I can’t do what I used to do, at 22,
There’s nothing I wouldn’t do, at 22
Oooh at 22, I’d drink whiskey with the boyz,
At 22, I had all the big-boy toys,
At 22, That’s when I crashed into you
At 22, love isn’t what you say, it’s what you do

Chorus
I still fall in love with you everyday
I’m here 24/7 to kiss each tear away
We have as far to go
As we’ve already been
But everyday I fall in love again

I can’t do what I used to do, at 32
I dumped the toys to raise the boys, at 32
Oooh at 32, worked two jobs to get us through,
At 32, drove all night to be with you,
At 32, I’m still I crashing into you
At 32, love isn’t what you say, it’s what you do

I still fall in love with you everyday
I’m here 24/7 to kiss each tear away
We have as far to go
As we’ve already been
But everyday I fall in love again

Party in a Bottle

Harvest time is over
Put on your favorite dress
Fix up your hair and makeup
Time for a little rest
We can park the pickup
Down in the ol’ grape vines
Have a picnic and a slow dance
We’ll have a real good time

Pour a Klender Cabernet
Take a holiday
It’s a party in a bottle
You got a party in a bottle

Get all our friends together
Turn the music up
Pop a cork and toast the weekend
Lift that drinking cup
Let it breathe & oxidize
Salute the brightest star
And we can sip and sing all evening
Break out my ‘ol guitar

Pour a Klender Cabernet
Take a holiday
It’s a party in a bottle
You got a party in a bottle

Good food, friends and wine
You can taste the magic in the vines
Laugh & loving life at full throttle
We’ve got a party in a bottle
Party in a bottle

Right for All the Wrong Reasons

I ain’t got a Cadillac
No, big house up on Camelback
It’s just me, John Deere and a beer, sittin’ right here
I don’t need no real estate
Just blue jeans and cutting bait
Cause Darlin’, my treasure is you
She likes city lights and fancy cars
Red wine in classy bars
I’m fine with my campfire, under the stars… with you

We’re Right for all the Wrong reasons
As different as we could be
Yes, we’re Right for all the Wrong reasons
Two lovers at heart… you & me

She likes summer in the Hampton breeze
Winter in the sunny Keys
Or Aspen on cross country skis
But I’ve got my favorite pole,
Down at our fishing hole
And I know she’s thinking of me, tonight

We’re Right for all the Wrong reasons
As different as we could be
Yes, we’re Right for all the Wrong reasons
Two lovers at heart… you & me

I can’t wait to see her, coming home up the drive
I know she’ll be smiling thru her bedroom eyes…

We’re Right for all the Wrong reasons
As different as we could be
Yes, we’re Right for all the Wrong reasons
Two lovers at heart… you & me
No, we’re never apart… you & me
The secret to us… you & me

Louisiana Lue

If you ever find yourself in the backwoods of the Louisiana Bayou
You might come across Bubba’s Bait Shop & Worm Emporium
Ask Bubba to tell you his story… it goes like this…

I was fishing off a swamp boat down Louisiana way
Come a gun-toting backwood beauty thru the foggy grey
Hotter than cayenne, woo, man o’ man
She could steal your heart, in her camo lingerie

They say, she’s got 11 brothers
A warrior dad, one worn-out mother
Who went out for a Camel, and a gator…ate her

They call her…
Louisiana Lue, pride of the bayou
Many men have tried, a few have died
Louisiana Lou, (woo), I love you
Jumbalaya, fit to be tied

She had some fancy French name, but we just call her Lue…her sparkling smile shines like a lure…careful!.. you can’t catch a gator by the tail…

She can ride a gator to the General Store
She don’t give a croc bout your 4x4
Are you tough enough, are you man enough
With those Daisy Duke eyes, she’ll wipe you off the floor

In the misty moonlight air
She lets down her raven hair
In a swamp shack back behind the foggy bog

Oooh, Louisiana Lue, I love you
Many men have tried, a few have died
Louisiana Lou, Pride of the bayou
I wish I could make you my bride

No one’s seen Lue for awhile. One day she just up and vanished into the morning fog. So keep your eyes out for a camo-wearing swamp flower with a ponytail tucked through her hat; she’ll be wearing gator skin boots, packing a bowie knife and a pair of .38s - you just never know…

This Flag

I fly this flag, in memory and pride
The emblem of honor, the heroes who died
United we stand, America strong
For all we believe, right where we belong

I love this flag, hand over of my heart
Long live our land, who could tear us apart
These stars and these stripes, I don’t dare let ‘em drag
I kneel down to pray, but I stand for this flag

This Flag says freedom, this Flag speaks dreams
This Flag holds history, bustin’ out at the seams
This Flag might get torn, but its story waves true
If this Flag could talk, tales of red white & blue

Heroes remembered, we will never forget
Daughters and sons, who gave up their best
You raise morning colors, fly tall everyday
These colors don’t run, they won’t fade away

This Flag says freedom, this Flag speaks dreams…

More than 200 years, extreme sacrifice
1 million soldiers… paid that ultimate price
I salute you Old Glory, long may you wave
Pledge my allegiance, to the home of the brave

I love this flag, These colors don’t run, God bless this flag

Midnite at the Starlite

Midnite at the Starlite, was dead as Sunday afternoon
Same old worn out faces, same old worn out tune
Just about to pay his tab, then she came thru the door
And every eye in the Starlite lounge, watched her walk across the floor

She sat down by the window, caught his reflection in the glass
But he didn’t see her looking, cause he was staring at her class
Soft as silk and half his age, she turned her head and smiled
And in the darkness of the candlelight, another seed of love grows wild, he thought…

I wonder where I’ve seen those eyes before
As blue as where the ocean meets the shore
He thought as if to say, was it New York or L.A.
I wonder where I’ve seen those eyes before

He walks up to her table, she offers him a chair
He reaches out to touch her, but she brushes back her hair
And in that fleeting moment, the young and old are one
Though not a single word was spoken, they knew the night had just begun

From the barroom to the bedroom, can be such a lonely climb
When you’re in the arms of midnite, and you love on borrowed time
But he knows tonight is different, as she unties her dress
He lives a lifetime in a moment, and fills his heart with her caress, he says

I wonder where I’ve seen those eyes before
As blue as where the ocean meets the shore
She smiles as if to say, was it New York or L.A.
I wonder where I’ve seen those eyes before

In the steamy August silence, their tension feeds the storm
His anxious knowing arms await, her body young and warm
But as the moonlight fills the bedroom, he stops as life unfolds
He sees the locket that he left her, when she was only 2 years old… he cries…

Now I know where I’ve seen those eyes before
They’re the same blue eyes your mother wore
She cries as if to say, I still love you anyway
Now I know where I’ve seen those eyes before

They talk away into the night, the darkness their disguise
Blame it on the Starlite lounge and those big blue ocean eyes

My Dog Don’t Talk Back

I can get drunk, run off the rails, completely lose my mind
I can leave a mess, wear muddy boots
Lose total track of time
I can do, do, do, what I want… do what I wanna do
I can jump the track, smoke another pack
And my dog don’t talk back

Hang out till three, go back for more. close every bar in town
Play cards and pool, play the fool
Nobody writing it down
I can do, do, do, what I want - do what I wanna do
I can hit the sack, spend all my jack
And my dog don’t talk back

Too much bla, bla, bla
Too much yack, yack, yack
Nick nack paddy wack
Givin’ me a heart attack
My dog don’t, my dog don’t, my dog don’t….Don’t talk back

Sit in my truck, drink outta my cup, enjoy the ride around
I’ll open your door, I’ll buy your lunch
Set up your shots of Crown
I can do, do, do, what I want - do what I wanna do
Cut me some slack, I don’t need the flack
Cause my dog don’t talk back

Too much bla, bla, bla
Too much yack, yack, yack
Nick nack paddy wack
Givin’ me a heart attack
My dog don’t, my dog don’t, my dog don’t….Don’t talk back

Too much bla, bla, bla
Too much yack, yack, yack
Nick nack paddy wack
My dog had a heart attack?
What, my dog died?, (your dog died), my dog died!?
Honey, I take it all back

The Girl That Can’t Say No

We were high school sweethearts, as the world watched N.Y. fall
Our lives would change forever, that day I heard the call
While I went off to battle, she fought battles of her own
But her letters kept on coming, while I dreamed of going home

She’s still waiting by that window, at the downtown jewelry store
We couldn’t buy that diamond ring, cause I went off to war…

She’s the girl that can’t say no
She’s the girl that can’t say no

In a flash of noise and smoke, everything went wrong
They dragged me from the battlefield, they said, a part of me was gone
She could never love me now, I’ll never be the same
I’m not her football hero, she doesn’t need this pain

Please tell her for me, brother, I ain’t never coming home
She should find another, she needs to let me go…but

She’s the girl that can’t say no
She’s the girl that can’t say no
She had every reason to go
She’s the girl that can’t say no

When I woke up at Walter Reed, I saw my angel in her favorite dress
Then she pulled out that diamond ring, said “Baby, you’re my hero”…
Put it on, and said “yes”

She’s the girl that can’t say no
She’s the girl that can’t say no
She had every reason to go
She’s the girl that can’t say no
And how I love her so…
She’s the girl that can’t say no

Genie

You must be the Genie
That lives in my guitar
Cause when you’re near the strings sing
Make me sound like I’m a star
But when you’re gone I’m twangy
And I sound so out of tune
I’m goin flat without you
You better get on back real soon

Oh lovely genie inside your jar
Come make your home in my guitar
Come share the magic, that you can bring
Bring life to my music, and make it sing

You’re the spirit of each song I sing
You’re the beauty of each rhyme
And when I strum a love song
You keep each beat in time
But when I break my D string it’s because
Your out of town
So bring me back my capo
Let’s make some awesome sounds

Oh lovely genie inside your jar
Come make your home in my guitar
Come share the magic, that you can bring
Bring life to my music, and make it sing

Now as the curtain rises
I’m blinded by the life
And I’m lost because my Genie
Is nowhere near insight
I’m about to call the concert off
When I hear a voice shout wait
And damned if it ain’t my genie
She comes bustin’ through the gate

Oh lovely genie inside your jar
Come make your home in my guitar
Come share the magic, that you can bring
Bring life to my music, and make it sing

Oh lovely genie inside your jar
You made your home in my guitar
We share the magic, that you can bring
You brought life to my music, and you made it sing

I’ll Never Stop

I see your smile
Though there are miles between us
A tear in your eye, deep in the night
I can hear your tender heart on the phone
There’s not a moment that you’re ever alone

I’ll never stop loving you
Might not believe me but its true
And there may be times you might want me to
But I’ll never stop loving you

Somewhere inside, is where I hide away with you
You’re always here, when I’m alone
I know sometimes you think I’m gone for good
But you know I’d be in both places if I could

I’ll never stop loving you
Might not believe me but its true
An there may be times you might want me to
But I’ll never stop loving you

If you could only see my face when you smile
Then you would see that I would die for you child

Puttin’ Out Some K

I remember she used to be a 32 B
With deep brown eyes, so sweet on me
But she headed for the stage lights of Nashville Tennessee
Now she has shiny teeth (pearly whites) & a double-D

Somebody’s putting out some K
Nails & facials everyday
They say you gotta pay to play
Somebody’s putting out some K

She met her famous Dr., when she sang at a corporate show
A rich old plastic surgeon, wouldn’t you know
From her bleached blond hair to her rhinestone toes,
To her sequined Gucci clothes
She thinks that all it takes to reach her dream… is dough

Somebody’s putting out some K
Nails & facials everyday
They say you gotta pay to play
Somebody’s putting out some K

She’s come a long long way since our trailer park days
From that small town girl to her big town ways
From chugging Bartles & James, to sippin’ Klender Cabernet

Somebody’s putting out some K
Nails & facials everyday
They say you gotta pay to play
Somebody’s putting out some K

Somebody’s paying out some K
Nails & facials everyday
They say you gotta pay to play
Somebody’s putting out some K

As Long as it Takes

Two became one
Started our life together, so much unknown
With this simple ring, I pledged my love forever
Taking you home

Sometimes we hurt, sometimes we laugh in pleasure
The story of love, pages of time we treasure
Hold me so tight, the rest of my life
If we could just forgive mistakes
How deep, how high, how long
As long as it takes
As long as it takes

Over the years, we’ve been through so much together
We always stood strong
As we grow older, we’ll brave the stormy weather
Love can never be wrong

Sometimes we hurt
Sometimes we laugh in pleasure
The story of love, pages of time we treasure
Hold me so tight, the rest of my life
If we could just forgive mistakes
How deep, how high, how long
As long as it takes
As long as it takes
