Right for All the Wrong Reasons

I enjoy this song for it’s intimacy and emotion. It’s a smooth track and I like the sound of the soft staccato strings against the sensitive track. That was an idea that Ron came up with on acoustic guitar when we were developing the track, but we ended up using his idea with violas instead. I think it makes for an interesting hook.

I admire the relationship these two characters have in the song. There is a lot of grace shown by both of them to do the things that fit their individual personalities and needs. In some ways, they are as different as night and day, but when it comes to sharing their love, they both have their priorities in the Right place.

Right for All the Wrong Reasons

I ain’t got a Cadillac
No, big house up on Camelback
It’s just me, John Deere and a beer, sittin’ right here
I don’t need no real estate
Just blue jeans and cutting bait
Cause Darlin’, my treasure is you
She likes city lights and fancy cars
Red wine in classy bars
I’m fine with my campfire, under the stars… with you

We’re Right for all the Wrong reasons
As different as we could be
Yes, we’re Right for all the Wrong reasons
Two lovers at heart… you & me

She likes summer in the Hampton breeze
Winter in the sunny Keys
Or Aspen on cross country skis
But I’ve got my favorite pole,
Down at our fishing hole
And I know she’s thinking of me, tonight

We’re Right for all the Wrong reasons
As different as we could be
Yes, we’re Right for all the Wrong reasons
Two lovers at heart… you & me

I can’t wait to see her, coming home up the drive
I know she’ll be smiling thru her bedroom eyes…

We’re Right for all the Wrong reasons
As different as we could be
Yes, we’re Right for all the Wrong reasons
Two lovers at heart… you & me
No, we’re never apart… you & me
The secret to us… you & me

Behind the Music

Back in the mid-2000s, I had stopped singing for about 12 years when I started composing instrumental music for my nature film series. I wasn’t that thrilled with my vocal sound in earlier times, so I put it off for a season to concentrate on instrumentals. This is the first song I remember doing a vocal again after that long period and I discovered a nice new resonance and sound to my voice. It also had a little bit of edge which I like as well. It’s about time… That experience inspired me to start singing and writing again so I’m thankful for that little discovery.

Behind the Video

Bob Cusick put this video storyboard together. We got to play a little bit in the studio where they captured us but mostly it follows the story line of these two lovable characters.
