Ecstatic Fall

When everything seems perfect in a new relationship, it can be a wonderful whirlwind. Serotonin levels hit an all-time high and love is in the air.

That's the way those Disney films seems to teach... everything is absolutely wonderful and we just keep "falling" in love a little more each day. However, in reality, sometimes there are "rough" days in a new relationship, or worse yet, the blooming bottom falls out instead. Time and patience are essential elements for a successful relationship. Nurture them and let love grow at a natural pace. Otherwise, we may risk the scenario in this song...

Ecstatic Fall

She's every girl I've ever loved
Every unforgettable dream
If my thoughts are unforgivable
Pardon me, while I scream
Like lighting matches in the dark
I can’t put this fire out
Since she looked right thru my soul
I can’t remember life without

You can't tempt fate or outrun love
All in the same breath of time
Those deep dark eyes of beauty will blow your mind
You’ve hit the wall… Ecstatic Fall…

She told me, love never fails
So wear your heart out on your sleeve
And don’t get lost on rabbit trails
So I said, baby, I believe
She loved me through the Wintertime
And deep on into Spring
But when those red leaves started falling
She left one night, and took my everything

You can't tempt fate or outrun love
All in the same breath of time
Those deep dark eyes of beauty will blow your mind
You’ve hit the wall… Ecstatic Fall…

Behind the Music

I remember Huff sent me this beautiful track. He also had overdubbed some nice guitar lines in parts. I tried a melody in the verse but kept coming back to what he had played melodically on the guitar. I told him that parts of those guitar lines were great for the verse melody. He said, "I didn't design them to be song melody". I said, "I know, but some of those lines keep it fresh for me." After experimenting a lot with melodies, I used some of those guitar melodies and modified them slightly which became part of the verse and chorus. Our drummer, Glenn Johnson, suggested we use an extended guitar lead at the end. At first I wasn't sure how that would sound, but when I experimented and edited it in, we all liked it a lot, so we trailed out of the song with Bob's electric lead which added to the song's emotion.
