Spoken by a Broken Heart

I started off the Passion album with this new song because I think it sets a healthy theme for the album. This song is about someone who understands and remembers pain and hurt from past relationships.

The singer's character is guarded here and is asking the other person; is this for real? Are you planning on treating me right [thinking, "God knows, I’ve been hurt before and I’m a little gun shy."]?

Spoken by a Broken Heart

Too many times, I have had this dream
You and me dancing, in a late night scene
Like a movie playing over & over
Feels so strong, so real
Slow-motion emotion
Spinning, (spinning, spinning) like a Ferris wheel

Kiss me and hold me, in my midnight dream
Am I just afraid of fallin', are you all that you seem
Baby you can save me, from the endless dark
Chase away the words, spoken by a broken heart

This could be heading… down a rabbit hole
Falling deeper and deeper, getting out of control
Cool breeze lifts me higher & higher, I see my direction home
I wanna believe it
Getting stronger & stronger, I’m not alone

Kiss me and hold me, in my midnight dream
Am I just afraid of fallin', are you all that you seem
Baby you can save me, from the endless dark
Chase away the words, spoken by a broken heart

Kiss me and hold me, in my midnight dream
Am I just afraid of fallin', are you all that you seem
Only you can save me, from the endless dark
Chase away the words, spoken by a broken heart

Behind the Music

Our talented collaborator, Ken Ashby, came up with the title, which I really like. A strong title really helps to write a great song. I can hear a number of artists performing this song (in either Rock or Country genres). This song was created during one of our recent summer collaboration camps. We had a great time writing together... all 5 of us, writing, laughing, eating, and drinking a bit, too. Fun memories. I love the sounds and textures that Ron and Bob came up with, that create the "bed" of the music.

Behind the Video

The music video (coming soon) was filmed over our 4-camera holiday shoot. Bob Cusick directed and also did some nice hand-held camera work. It’s a fun song to sing, so my part on this one was pretty easy for a change. I did one take on keyboard and two takes on guitar, and that was it. We picked the best from that and just went with it. Hope you enjoy the storyline (coming soon).
