The Last Stand

For better for worse, isn’t that what we said
But with a few angry words that promise was dead
Two lonely people with hurts from the past
Hoping that something could last
Waiting and watching for someone to lead
Trying all of life’s bandaids to hide where we bleed
Wanting and wishing the desert would end
Longing for lover and friend

I’ll stand up for my marriage down on my knees
As I beg to You Father have mercy on me
How long You’ve been waiting for the heart of a man
Who’s willing to take the Last Stand

How can we count what each battle has cost
And what scale could measure the innocence lost
What made me think I could save us alone
Without Christ we’d be out on our own
So what can I promise that I haven’t yet failed
To raise the white flag and give God the sail
And render my spirit which has died to its pride
And pray He’ll remold us inside

I’ll stand up for my marriage down on my knees
As I beg to You Father have mercy on me
How long You’ve been waiting for the heart of a man
Who’s willing to take the Last Stand

There’s only one Knight in shining armor
Who can ride that stallion ‘cross Big Sky
Someday soon He’ll rescue you
And wipe that tear from your eye

I’ll stand up for my marriage down on my knees
As I beg to You Father have mercy on me
How long You’ve been waiting for the heart of a man
Who’s willing to take the Last Stand...the last stand
I’m willing take the Last Stand
